Couples Swept Away – Negril, Jamaica
Couples Swept Away is an amazing boutique style, adult only, all inclusive located in the laid back town of Negril, on the beautiful island of Jamaica.
This resort is perfect for those looking for a chance to relax, unwind and spend quality time with one another whether for a honeymoon, vow renewal, couple get away or anniversary trip!
The property the resorts sits on is breathtaking- the grounds were incredibly lush, making a guest feel like they were in a rainforest. My husband and I and friends of ours spent an amazing (although too short week) at Couples Swept Away this past December. When we first arrived everything was so green but as the week went on we saw more plants flowering, so it was always nice to keep an eye out for blooming flowers as we walked to the beach each morning!

Couples Swept Away is located on one of the nicest stretches of 7 mile beach! Very long and very deep. I loved that the cushions they provide for the chairs doubled as floats in the water. Speaking of the water, it was crystal clear and bath water warm. I have a strong aversion to chilly water :) - so I was thrilled that the ocean was warm! There was lots of room to spread out on the beach and plenty of beach chairs for the guests no matter what time of day you headed down.
Couples Swept away also provides beach flag service. Around 10am the beach waiter show up and provide a flag to all of the guests so that when you wanted a drink all you had to do was stick it in the sand. The service was amazing- I didn't even get a chance to get my flag into the sand before a charming young man came over to bring me a drink! I also enjoyed that there were lots of palms to keep you shaded when you had enough of the Caribbean sun. The sand on 7 Mile Beach in front of Couples swept Away was white, soft and amazingly clean- the resort rakes their entire beach front each morning to keep it pristine!
Another thing I loved, in the mornings they bring around melon kabobs to snack on and towards the afternoon they brought around rum snow cones!! Of course I had to try one and it was wonderfully refreshing!

The rooms at Couples Swept Away, would best be described as Caribbean chic. Very spacious, even in the lowest categories, with white tiled floors, king size comfortable beds topped with crisp linens and a white duvet that provided a nice contrast with the dark island woods. The large windows behind our bed had louvered slats that we opened every morning to listen to the birds and the maid closed for us with turn down service at night The clean lines were enhanced by the gauzy white curtains that covered the wall length windows and double balcony doors. The balcony was the largest I've seen at any resort thus far and a great place to have a continental breakfast, included with every room category or enjoy a few drinks at night before dinner. Some balconies had a rocker recliner or a loveseat, others a hammock and chair.
Our room was located in the new section of the resort- the garden verandah suite. I had heard that these rooms hear quite a bit of road traffic and that is correct. I'd recommend doing an atrium room- these are middle of the property and closer to the beach. Our room had a television & minibar that was stocked daily. The older section does not have tv's nor minibars. All rooms appeared to have decent storage space.
I also toured an atrium room- these are literally tucked into the gardens- the older section atrium rooms are the most private and have a hammock on the balcony but the bathrooms are showing their age a bit but were spotlessly clean.
Beachfront rooms are steps from the beach! This also means that they are not as private- if you are looking for privacy and a beachfront ask for the second or third floor!

- Couples dive Boat- no that's not my husband in the speedo!

- Hobie Cats-so much fun!
Watersports- incredible! My rotten husband ( and of course I say this in the most loving way- hee hee) woke me at 7:30am every single morning so that he could sign up for diving ( you had to be at the dive hut at 8am to sign up for the next mornings & afternoon dive) he really enjoyed the dives and went 4 out of the 7 days. We also took the hobie cat out twice, went waterskiing, snorkeling, kayaked & took the free catamaran cruise down the beach where he cliff jumped! I even tried the beginning dive class- went to do the open water and chickened out at about 10 feet- oh well maybe next time! All of this was included!
There is also an extensive fitness facility at Couples Swept Away- complete with a large exercise room, daily fitness & yoga classes, an obstacle course, tennis courts and lap pool to name just a few of the facilities. You will also find a smoothy bar and pool table at this end of the property.

- Local woodworking at Couples Swept away

- Purchase from him your Entwined Couples Palm Trees!
Be sure to check out the local craftsmen that set up shop near the beach walk. Pressure free browsing and you will see some fantastic local crafys from wood carving, paintings to leather sandals and everything in between. The craftsmen are only there for that day - so if you see something you like, grab it! The wood carver fellow that comes the night of the Beach party -Friday- has some of the best wood carving animal and fish work that I’ve seen so far on the island, very detailed and intricate! Also, if you’re planning on getting the entwined palm trees there is a family that sets up on Wednesday or Thursdays. They are a quiet bunch but extremely nice people and proud of the work they do, I’d highly recommend purchasing from them. Especially seeing that the entwined palm trees at the gift shop were waaaay more money!

- Hat making class~ David Prymula, Tom & Nicole Miller
So what if your bored of taking in the sun, wrinkly from playing in the water, don't feel like using the excercise facilities, shopped till you've spent all there is and have already ate & drink till you could burst - what can you do now ? Couples swept away has you covered there are complimentary day time activities including enrichment classes from hat making out of palm fronds, creating your own beaded jewelry to Jamaican cooking classes!
This is also an ideal location for a destination wedding. Whether you choose the amazing beach, lush gardens or at the gazebo, the staff can personalize and create your wedding vision. Jamaica is also one of the easiest Caribbean islands to get married on- no blood test, only a 24 hour residency requirement (provided that prior application has been made for a Jamaican marriage license ) and basic paperwork!

The evening entertainment is made for romance, from the amazing sunsets to the love songs after dinner. There are a few evenings during the week that will get your heart thumping in ways outside of romance. The beach party where you can kick off your shoes, dine under the stars and then enjoy an evening of Carnival fun ~ complete with a limbo dancer who you just have to see to believe! There is another evening of African drums that is not to be missed! For the most part however this is an early to bed, early to rise and enjoy the Caribbean sand, sun & sea resort!
