Sandals Emerald Bay -Review & Destination wedding Information
Sandals Emerald Bay
Definitely has the WOW factor! The resort, stately but inviting as you drive up the entrance to the lobby you’ll see why this was once the exclusive playground of the rich and famous. Not a glitzy property but understated, rich woods and utilization of the calming palette of the sea.As we disembarked from our transfer the white gloved serviced started immediately. We were enthusiastically greeted, shown a seat in the elegant lobby while being served champagne. Within minutes, our butler whisked us away to our Bay House Honeymoon one bedroom ocean view luxury honeymoon suite to complete our check in paperwork. As he graciously showed us our accommodations I kept thinking to myself -what a beautiful room. The large living area, complete with love seat, bistro table & chair plus a television looked over the large balcony that offered an ocean and pool view. From there you entered the bedroom, again spacious and well appointed. Be sure to wake one morning to catch the sunrise- it’s beautiful from this room! The walk in closet was ample enough for our belongings-including all of my husband’s dive gear ( it was nice not to have to trip over it!) and the bathroom was just perfect, double vanity sinks with a large soaking tub and separate glassed in shower. It certainly made getting ready for the day, or for dinner comfortable-especially as there was a second restroom with shower in the foyer to the suite . My husband on the other hand was impressed with the stocked mini bar and had popped open the complimentary bottle of champagne- he figured I‘d clue him in on the rest! After we hastily unpacked, we had a late lunch at Bahama Bay and while service was slow and inexperienced (typical for a resort that was only open for three weeks!) our server was sweet and wanted to please. The food was delicious and while some may say the portions are small, they were just right and true portion size (if still hungry one could always request more or go back to the tapas bar). After our late lunch we walked the property and spent some time on the beach stretching our legs, hearing the waves and taking in the warm night air. It was wonderful not to have to worry about anyone bothering you ( including our kids!). To kick off our shoes and wiggle our toes in the amazing soft and cool sand was so relaxing. A bit later we went to dinner at Il Cielo. Again, the service while slow, was eager to please, and the food was fresh and well presented. Dessert at Il Cielo is interesting- you proceed to the dessert bar where you watch it being prepared right in front of you and where your after dinner drink or coffee is delivered. If you are a chocoholic please try the chocolate cake dessert, it was sinful. While we were finishing our desserts we had the pleasure to speak with the head pastry chef Mr. Purmessur. He was so excited about what Sandals Emerald Bay was offering and planned to offer in the future in terms of food & beverage- from the already being served bread made from scratch and the pizza dough made at the resort from a secret recipe (both very yummy) to the freshly created desserts. Nothing was pre packaged and it makes a tremendous difference in the dining experience. While I have always enjoyed the food at Sandals the dining experience at Sandals Emerald Bay was tops!We skipped breakfast the next day in order to sleep in. Met with a sales staff do our site visit and room inspection. She was so much fun and so proud of the resort ! We were able to see several room categories and visit with the wedding coordinator - who, by the way, is a complete sweetheart!Weddings at Sandals Emerald Bay will be amazing, there are several options including, at either end of the beach ( currently they are working on building boardwalks to get to the beach for the brides to make their dramatic entrance), a Martha Stewart garden wedding gazebo ( unique to Sandals Emerald Bay ) with a beautiful reflecting pool on one side and a view of the ocean on the other. In case of inclement weather there are several meeting rooms that are lovely, or the spacious ballroom. The resorts lends itself to amazing wedding photo’s - from the beach and the lush gardens, to the golf course and marina, the choices are endless! For the bride that wants an upscale but private wedding, Sandals Emerald Bay is the perfect location!A few other wedding features that are must know!** Sandals Emerald Bay has a private reception option at Il Cielo where you can have dinner at no extra charge. This is perfect for the midsize group. Available only when the restaurant is open- the details are still being worked out on how to reserve, but will likely depend on the group size and first come, first booked.**Smaller groups of 10-12 it will be easier to accommodate dinner together as the restaurant has many table of 6 that can easily be joined with tables of 4. As Il Cielos‘s requires reservations it should be easy for smaller weddings parties to enjoy dinner together! Also there are a few large tables of 6 at Bahama Bay as a second option.**I discussed with the spa manager utilizing a private area at the spa for our wedding parties to gather and relax while getting services for the wedding. We will likely also be able to arrange for light appetizers and beverages to be served, it’ll be a fantastic option for the ladies to relax prior to the wedding! Not just limited to weddings we can also arrange this for other groups that are traveling together such as a girlfriend getaway or a golf group!**Stay tuned for two new wedding packages to be rolled out exclusive for Sandals Emerald Bay !**Be sure to order your wedding flowers early as they only receive shipments three times a week from Jamaica. My husband went to meet with the dive master and sign up for diving the next day. At this time the dive operation is still getting off the ground- Sandals Emerald Bay is waiting for delivery of the custom made Newton 47’ dive boat and hopefully that will be in the next week or so. For the moment they are using another boat and while not ideal, it gets the job done. The exciting part is that this area is quite virgin and the reefs look great. Lots of life, large corals and crystal clear water makes for a great experience. Keep in mind that the water will be chilly in January & February so be sure to bring a wetsuit or plan on renting one. No diving on Sundays.By the time my husband returned from the marina, he was given a full tour and watched them unpack the brand new dive gear, it was a bit late to do much before it’d be time to get ready for dinner so we spent some time with Jaime, the swim up pool bartender. He kept us entertained and on our way to being inebriated. We met some wonderful people from all over including guests that would be the first couple to get married at Sandals Emerald bay, prior Four Season regulars to past Sandals guests. Everyone was having a great time and that was in part to Jaime’s antics and the great drinks. When we returned to our room we found the Jack Daniels and Sambuca that my husband had requested from our butler was there. It was nice to be spoiled and not having to trudge the 30 steps to a nearby bar to get our favorite drinks. My husband enjoyed a drink on the balcony listening to the band while I got ready for dinner. We then sat together on the balcony watching the stars and enjoying the evening breeze. This evening we decided to try the Drunken Duck as the steaks and pork chops looked good. We arrived late when they were switching from dinner to late night menu- I had wanted a steak but the kitchen was closed- our server, Violet saw how disappointed I was and made a few phone calls and voila-we had steak for dinner. It was service above and beyond! Another great meal and Violet’s service was fantastic during our entire meal and she continued to check on us the rest of the evening!Sunday was a beautiful day although a little overcast towards the afternoon. We enjoyed spending time walking along the beach, watching the varying shades of blue (have I mentioned how soft the sand is and how stunning the water looks?), then sharing one of the hammocks that are scattered throughout the gardens. We went to Dino’s pizzaria for lunch- Be sure to stop in to the pizzaria ! This is by far the BEST pizza in the Caribbean or perhaps the world! The dough is made daily onsite with a secret recipe that the talented pastry chef gleaned from top chef’s in France! It doesn’t stop there as it is topped with fresh ingredients and quality mozzarella. Be sure to say Hi to the shy but wonderful young man who will make your pizza ( he also makes the dough fresh each day!) he’s such a sweetie and takes great pride in his work! .While enjoying our personal pizza’s we overheard a couple who were former Four seasons guests (well the tables were really, really close and you couldn’t help it!) they were talking about how great a concept Sandals was and how the food overall was better than when the resort was a Four Seasons. That‘s quite a compliment!Meant to use the hobie cats after lunch but the weather started to turn and it was just a bit too chilly for me. Dave went swimming and I enjoyed basking in the sun. The beach is so large that you have a tremendous amount of elbow room and can stake out your own patch of sand. It was fun watching the guests enjoying themselves while the butlers brought them everything from sunblock, to stocked coolers of beer, water and pop to snacks to munch on! Then we explored the marina ( my husband loves boats of all shapes and sizes and there were quite a few to look over) and a bit of the golf course- I don‘t know how anyone could concentrate on their game- the views are breathtaking! Overall just lazing the day away together. With our hectic schedule and three daughters we don’t get to do much of so this was a real treat! The relaxed pace lends itself to re-connecting with your spouse or partner. We planned on having dinner at Barefoot by the Sea that evening but it was closed due to the poor weather- wind and light rain. So off to Bahama Bay we went- the tapas bar was great-including the chilled snow crab legs! Service was definitely better than the night we arrived! On Monday I went solo to Il Cielo for a late breakfast as my hubby was off diving. I enjoyed a perfect eggs benedict ( yup- I gained weight on this trip!). Then back to the room to catch up on emails ( I know-it’s terrible to be working while I am suppose to be on vacation and relaxing, but duty calls!) . Email service at times was really great- at other times you couldn’t log on. You could pay 13.95 a day or 38.99 for the week. I had planned on taking more photo’s of the property and spending some time playing on the beach – hoping to do some snorkeling and hobie cats but unfortunately the day ended up being a bit brisk and dreary with showers off and on. We had lunch at Barefoot by the Sea and Dave scarfed down the freshly made nacho chips, salsa and guacamole- hog. Enjoyed a fresh seafood salad and sweet potato soup while Dave had the blackened grouper sandwich- all was great! Took a brief tour of part of the island with some of our new friends and then we spent some more time at the pool bar ( it was THE place to be even with chilly weather and the location is great- right between the beach and pool- great crowd and everyone was having fun!) and then warmed up in the hot tub while the sun set.An early night for us as our flight in the am left at 7. Check out was traumatic- I didn’t want to leave.Normally I wait 6 month before I can recommend a newly opened property, as there is always a learning curve when a property is new- Sandals Emerald Bay will accomplish in 6 weeks what other properties take 6 months to do. I found it quite interesting that the resort was in the high eighties % for occupancy in the first 3 weeks - that in itself was amazing- but for the staff to function as well as they did was a high testament to Sandals !In a nutshell -What makes Sandals Emerald Bay so special ?Butler in every room- ahhhhh, the butlers are the secret to amazing pampering. They’ll arrange your pool or beach chairs, deliver food or drink and arrange for your every desire to be met! Definitely utilize this service and you will not regret it!Grounds- lush and spacious, the park like grounds invited you for a stroll whether it was day or night.Food & beverage - fantastic. Every meal is created from fresh ingrediants and it makes a world of difference. From the freshly made bread to the delicious but beautifully prepared entrees to the scrumptious ( and not for the calorie counter) desserts this one really shines !Elbow room-the resort was in the high 80’s occupancy, yet we felt like we had the resort to ourselves. Plenty of loungers on both the beach and by the active and quiet pool. The crowning glory ? The Beach and water. The above all make it an amazing property but the Beach-neither pictures nor words can do justice to this beach! Just shy of a mile long, the crescent shaped beach was made for lovers. The softest sand that I have ever enjoyed, this quiet getaway has no beach vendors to interrupt your tranquility. The bay changes colors throughout the day reflecting all the shades of blue and emerald that you can dream of.A couple of notes--Pack lightly! Most flights into the island are on the smaller jets, therefore there is limited room for luggage and many pieces get left behind till the next flight comes in!-This is a small Caribbean island, not for those who seek nightlife and lots of excursions! Be prepared to take in beautiful views of the ocean while relaxing, it’s a slower pace all around!-At this time not all events proceed as scheduled on the daily entertainment sheet, nor are the restaurant & bar hours quite as stated- again typical of a resort that is just opening and I have no doubt that will improve.-The golf course is not for the faint of heart. Greg Norman designed the 7001 yard, par 72 Championship Golf course with 6 signature Oceanside holes. I overhead it described as challenging and that Greg Norman made it for just for one person to play - himself! However everyone that tried it fully enjoyed and said the views were impressive.-Let your butler know if you are going fishing as the chef can prepare your catch for that evening’s meal!-There are six Har-Tru tennis courts that were in use during our stay-there was also a tennis pro available!- The spa looks fantastic, not enough time to enjoy a treatment during our brief stay but it was large and had 17 treatment rooms. Dermologic skin care treatments are available, also several couples rooms, a yoga room and a fitness center with Cyberex equipment and a few free weights.Sandals Emerald Bay has become that special place for me - you know the one where, when you need to think happy thoughts and find a little peace in a hectic day, that you daydream about. Even though there were a few grand opening glitches-particularly with wait staff and it was obvious that the resort was understaffed, I found that the overall experience was amazing and the potential for the resort, breathtaking. Each day you can visibly see the staff improving and by our last day service was nearly perfect- I can only imagine what another month under their belt will accomplish!Sandals Emerald Bay is the perfect resort for those seeking a remote adult only retreat, the ease of all inclusive, and the most beautiful white sand beach framed by the Caribbean sea one can imagine. To book your Sandals Emerald Bay vacation, honeymoon or Destination wedding contact Jennifer@Sandnsunvacations.com

Iberostar Rose Hall Resorts & Spa- Suites- by TA Maureen
Iberostar Rose Hall Resort and Spa is huge. It is divided into 3 hotels. The original least expensive hotel is Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel. That one is currently closed but expected to reopen in November in time for busy season. The middle hotel is Iberostar Rose Hall Suites. This is newer and has all junior suites. This resort is family friendly as well as the beach hotel. The Grand is adults only with added amenities such as butler service. We stayed in the Suites so that is what I will review although I have a few pics from the 2 others.
Iberostar Rose Hall Suites Site Visit October 2009.
We arrived to the resort at around 2pm despite the empty lobby and low occupancy our room was not ready. That was fine as I am not the type to be upset because a room isn’t ready early. Check in time is 3pm. The lobby was large with a bar tour desks the front desk and a grand staircase leading down to the pool/beach/restaurants level. There are elevators as well. We were given our bracelets and directed to the main buffet, Miranda Hill, for lunch. We were impressed with large variety at the buffet. I love the pasta made to order!
We checked back after lunch and our room was ready. We were in an Oceanview Junior Suite. I was very impressed with the rooms. They were spacious and very clean. You enter into a hallway with the bathroom on one side and large closet for hanging clothes, closet with shelves and safe, and mini bar on the other side. The bathroom was large with a huge soaking tub (no jets) and a stall shower with rain shower head and double sinks. There is a door between the hall and the bedroom. The bed is big and comfortable with plenty of pillows and a flat screen TV. Then you step down to a sunken living area with love seat table, desk and chairs. There is free internet connection by the desk but it is not wireless. The balcony was a nice size overlooking the pool with and ocean view if you go out and look to the side (that is what ocean view is if you want a full on view of the beach book and ocean front). There is a rack for hanging wet clothes as they ask you not to hang clothes/towels from the balcony. This rule and others is included in their mini handbook of rules that is given to you at check in.
This resort is very European so all instructions, menus, and signs are listed in several languages and you will hear all different languages being spoken while there. Most staff seemed to speak English and/or Spanish. You will also note ash trays everywhere (even in rooms and next to lounge chairs) because it is okay to smoke although I was never bothered by the smoke.
Restaurants: All specialty restaurants require reservations be made at the guest services desk in the lobby. They all have a dress code. Men must wear trousers and shoes! The buffet restaurant is the only one without a dress code of reservations needed.
We were only got to try 2 restaurants for dinner. Aunt Ruby’s steakhouse was very good! You can walk along the beach to get to it or take a shortcut from the pool area through the hallway of building 3. Everyone sits out on the 2 patio areas for dinner because the inside gets filled with smoke when the grills are going. You do go inside for the salad bar. The other specialty restaurant we got to try was the Japanese Hibachi restaurant. This is actually located in the beach hotel so we had to take a golf cart over and down a steep hill (do not sit on the very back seat). The way back we just walked along the beach which was much nicer until a cat jumped out. The cat was harmless but scared me to death, lol! While at the hibachi we kept waiting for the cooking show to start but it never did. He cooked in front of us but there was tricks, show, nothing. We must have just gotten a dud cook because we heard applause and what not coming from the other grills. The portions here are small so if you are a big eater order 2 choices. Also, they do not offer you sake but they do have it if ask and they serve it warm.
As I mentioned earlier we were impressed with the Miranda Hill lunch buffet. The lunch buffet at Aunt Ruby’s was good but did not have as much selection.
As many know the beach is not as great in the Montego Bay/Rose Hall area as it is in other areas of Jamaica or the Caribbean. It was still nice but the water is a little rough at times which makes not clear for as far out as we are used to. Plus it is pretty rocky along the shoreline. Once you get past this patch it is smoother. If this bothers you, you can bring water shoes or walk down towards the steakhouse and beach hotel where it seemed to be less rocky.
The pool is the best part of the resort! We loved getting a drink at the swim up bar and then leaning up against the infinity edge and just hanging out. This seemed to be the hang out spot. The lazy river was a nice touch too. There is a nice Jacuzzi although it was not heated at the time we were there.
The entertainment staff works hard to keep activities going. Everyone seems to enjoy them but at times they were a bit loud and persistent in getting guests to participate. There is a smaller activity pool for diving instruction and games like water polo.
There is nightly entertainment in the theater each night. They put on shows for the children earlier in the evenings then the entertainment starts around 9-9:30. The disco is open 11pm-3am. We never made it out that late! The music bar was open certain nights with live entertainment. That seemed to be a nice place to hang out in the evenings. There was also a cigar bar and the lobby bar.
WEDDINGS:
I met with the WC Nicole Barnett and she took me on a tour of the resort. She is very sweet and seems to be pretty on top of things. Some resorts only offer limited info on your options after you ask and wait weeks to get an answer. She was able to show me the different ceremony, cocktail hour and reception sites. I really like the balcony off of the main lobby overlooking pool, resort and facing the beach. She said this is a great place to set up cocktail hour and I agree. More on locations below. She seemed a little more accessible and up front with information than other WC’s I have met. She sis admit her job can be overwhelming at times which I can certainly understand, but she does a great job! Also both times I needed to get a hold of her prior to my trip she answered the phone. That almost never happens! There is only one wedding per day at each resort so although she has her hands full it’s not as bad as resorts that have 3-5 weddings a day.
Ceremony Locations:
Beach
Gazebo (next to pool)
Lazy River Island (a pretty neat and unique location!)
Decoration of wedding area is included in your package and includes either and iron arch or a bamboo canopy/huppah, white sheer fabric, artificial ivy and/or flowers. Chairs for all guests with white covers and a tie bow in either gold, white, or silver. A white or red runner is included. SOOOOOOOOOOOO I have heard many complain about the cost of wedding packages at Iberostar but when you consider everything that is included that you would have to pay extra for at other resorts it really is worth it. For example at another popular AI the runner is $40.00 chair covers and sashes are $12.00 per chair!
Music-they can play music you bring or you can hire live music. Musicians must be paid in cash prior to event.
Mento Band $350.00/hr.

Violinist $300.00/hr.

Couples Negril
I am not sure there are words to explain how I feel about this place. I kept saying to my husband this is my “happy place”. I have been to many all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. I have been to more over the top grand luxurious places, but this is not what being in Negril is all about. Negril is about being laid back, relaxing, and having no worries. It is part of my job to check out all different resorts all over so I don’t usually plan on going back to the same resort but I know I will be back to CN.
We enjoyed our Couples vacation as soon as we got to the airport. We checked in at the Couples lounge and were served some Red Stripes before we were escorted to the van and sent on our way. We were the only guests in the van. The driver stopped so we could get some beers and he told us about the sites along the way.
I would like to give a thorough review of the property but what I really want to get across is it’s not really about the property specifics but rather the atmosphere and vibe here. I have always known that Couples Resorts have very loyal repeat clientele but now I truly understand why.
Here we go,
Location:
CN is located on Bloody Bay Beach (not 7 mile beach that is where CSA is). This cove has crystal calm waters and white sandy beaches. It is located approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Sangster International Airport (transfers are included).
This resort sits on 18 acres of lush tropical foliage. This is no concrete jungle, it is pure Caribbean paradise!
Accomodations:
There are 234 suites and rooms on this property.
All rooms are very spacious and decorated with eclectic Caribbean charm. All rooms have air conditioning, king bed, ceiling fan, flat screen TV, and I-pod docking station(we loved hearing our favorite songs while sitting on our balcony) ; they are in 9 three story buildings (no elevators) set amongst the foliage facing the beach in two different u-shaped patterns on either side the lobby and pool. There are 3 types of Deluxe rooms: Garden, Ocean, and Beachfront and 2 types of suites: Garden and Beachfront. There is nothing tricky here about what your room is going to be like. It is simple. Unlike other resorts you can also feel good about booking a Deluxe room category here. The suites offer not only more space but a sofa, bigger balcony with signature hammock and one of the largest hotel bathrooms I have seen.
Inclusions:
Now this is where Couples really shines. There are so many things included in this all-inclusive package you are actually saving money by booking here. Of course they include delicious food (really delicious but I will talk more about that later) and top shelf drinks (they even serve Grey Goose as part of the AI). They also include way more than other AI’s such as water sports and SCUBA, sunset catamaran rides, glass bottom boat rides, shuttles to Margaritaville, free shopping trips, unlimited green fees and shuttles to the course. Oh and the inclusion that we appreciated most….a free internet café (very well air conditioned if you need to cool off ) and free wireless internet throughout the resort. It was so easy to keep in touch with home! Even your round trip airport transfers are included.
Dining:
I am a picky eater and I LOVED the food at CN. They had the best jerk burgers I have ever tasted. My husband loved the sushi at Lychee. You can’t miss Friday night chocolate and champagne at sunset, yum!
Cassava Terrace
This is the main buffet dining restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have 3 specialty theme nights throughout the week so that helps add to the variety. One night we had steaks grilled right in front of us poolside during a theme night. Breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit smoothies and omelets made to order. We never had lunch here but that was because we could not get enough of the jerk chicken and jerk burgers at the grill! The stage is also located in this open air dining area so you can listen to some music while dining in the evening.
Heliconia
This poolside/beachfront grill features made to order lunch such as salads, jerk chicken, jerk burgers, other burgers, fries, and more. There is also a snack station here featuring nachos, pizza, and beef patties.
For dinner they offer a different menu at night. It is more Mediterranean with pasta dishes and a dessert bar.
Lychee
This was our favorite restaurant. It is an Asian Fusion theme. This one is air conditioned. My husband enjoyed the sushi appetizer for 2 (all on his own). I had the beef teriyaki one night and the pork spare ribs another night. Both were delicious!
Otaheite
This is the gourmet restaurant . I enjoyed the soup and nut crusted chicken dish. This restaurant is also air conditioned. You can make reservations for this at guest services in the lobby and men should wear trousers and closed shoes.
Lobster is served on Friday nights while in season. Continental breakfast in bed can be ordered as well.
****The best thing at these restaurants besides the food is that all have casual dress codes and no reservations required except for Otaheite. ****
Bars
There are 4 bars (plus in room mini bar) at Couples Negril. The piano bar is open every evening. There is no disco so they have dance parties here on certain nights as well as karaoke nights and piano sing alongs. The swim up bar/pool bar is always a favorite in the late afternoon. The main bar is just next to Terrace Restaurant. There is a beachfront bar on the deck grill Heliconia. We hung mostly at the swim up bar and the piano bar. Even though this resort is couples only and more laid back we had such a good time each night and made lots of friends. The entertainment staff here is friendly but not obnoxious or over-bearing.
Spa
There is a full service spa here. They offer beach massages as well as their very unique tree house massage hut.
There is always great secluded places to sneak off with your spouse. There are hammocks along the beach, 2 jacuzzis at the pool and a hidden one back by the spa.
Yes, there is an au natural beach but it is secluded and no big deal if you don’t want to go over there you don’t have to. We met plenty of couples who loved it.

Mystic Mountain -Ocho Rios , Jamaica Honeymoon Activities

- Mysric Mountain, jamaica
Mystic Mountain- Attraction Ocho Rios, JamaicaStomach turning knots form when I think of heights- yup, I’m not a fan of them, at all. And Mystic Mountain, was all about attractions that utilized gravity or defied it from on top of a mountain. But on my recent stay at Royal Plantation we were offered the opportunity to visit Mystic Mountain, the newest attraction in Ocho Rios Jamaica. The lure of seeing the rain forest, the interesting concept of bobsledding down a mountain in tropical Jamaica intrigued me enough so that I went. Boy am I glad I did! Located just 5 minutes from town, Mystic Mountain really lives up to the hype!To get to the top of the mountain we rode the RainForest Sky Explorer – basically a ski lift up & over the mountain. The views are spectacular. To the left you look over the ocean and port in Ocho Rios, and to the right you gaze on the lush St. Ann mountains. Arriving at the top you’ll get to read about and see memorabilia of Jamaica’s top athletes, enjoy lunch at the restaurant, take in views from the lookout tower and enjoy the waterslide and infinity pool. Don’t forget your swim suit! But then the real rush begins- the BobSled. As you stand in the line and hear the occasional shriek and scream you start to second guess yourself. Is this really what a middle aged Mom of 3 should be doing? Before you know it your being strapped into your individual Bobsled and getting braking instructions. If you’re a speed junkie ask for a push to get started and then hang on! Better than a roller coaster, you glide along the stainless steel rails, rushing around corners and bends controlling your own speed as you hurtle down the mountain through the rainforest. Absolutely exhilarating! As you come back to the top of the mountain you can’t wait to go again and again! The next great rush is the Zipline. Remember that fear of heights I have ? Well, after the adrenaline was pumping through me from the Bobsled I found myself being harnessed up. Being led to the first platform I kept asking myself what in the world was I doing!? The first guide provided our instructions and off he went – hands free, head thrown back, all caution to the wind! The second guide hooked us up to the zip and off we went! The initial zip was a bit petrifying, it was long, fast and the guides did the breaking for you, but the view- amazing! One by one we conquered each of the 5 zip lines till the “surprise” ending. A straight 10 metre, free fall drop to the bottom of the tree! After you stop shaking, you then traverse a suspension bridge to the Sky Explorer that will take you back down the mountain and concludes your day. Located just below the tree line the return SkyExplorer offers a close upview of the flora & fauna of the rainforest. The perfect way to end a fantastic experience. Mystic Mountain is a definite must do in Jamaica!Check out the photo's at http://sandnsun.smugmug.com/gallery/9291403_L9gLx#620834570_VDVqtBeaches Turks & caicos- AMAZING!
April 27 I was able to get out to to Beaches T&C for a site visit and I was blown away! The resort, grounds, staff, food & beverage-everythinbg was top notch!
I was amazed at everything the property offered in terms of options of activities to do, The different ambiances in each village and the variety of room categories, all of the rooms that we saw were great- modern, large and claen! Quite honestly the pictures just don't do it justice- the entire property was stunning!!
More than that though I learned so much about the "experience" that families have at Beaches T&C !Walking around the property over the two days that I was there I saw so many family moments that just warmed my heart! A father and 11 or 12 yr old son hanging out together on a hammock watching a volleyball game, both with their heads thrown back laughing, teens walking through the property showing off the French village eateries to their friends saying -"isn't this cool, it's just like Disney!" , watching a Grandmother holding hands with her granddaughter strolling through the property, both pointing out their favorite flowers and then a little guy all of about 3 yrs old, eyes wide and a huge grin when he saw Cookie Monster! It was such fun watching his little arms & legs pumping trying to get to cookie as fast as he could to get a hug!
Moments like that you can't get from a brochure or a webinar- I am so glad that I went and was able to see those moments for myself!
BTW- I had my yearly classroom training for Sandals & Beaches while I was there and the updates & upgrades at all of the properties are fantastic -Sandals just really keeps raising the bar! I learned alot and the 4 hrs flew by!I'll start with the three villages! It's really neat because each section of the resort has a different ambiance and so this property has something to appeal to everyone!
The Caribbean Village is the original section of the resort. The buildings are all two stories high which makes it feel more intimate although they are stretched along the property. I loved the subdued blues, yellows, pinks and greens that the buildings were painted, felt very Caribbean but was not overwhelming, plus there is so much mature foliage on the buildings and around them, it felt and looked so tropical!
The rooms we saw were in the top categories and let me tell you- they were very modern, clean yet warm and inviting and they were huge! I was really impressed with how large and airy they were. Flat screen televisions, king size beds for the parents, a variety of sleeping options for the kids everything looked great from the furniture to the linens and for all of you bathroom fans they were very nice and modern also!
In the Caribbean Village you have everything you need- extremely close to the beach, you also have a great pool with swim up bar and a waterfall feature, restaurants, and bars (including an adult only). You really wouldn't ever need to leave this area if you didn't want to! There are hammocks scattered around the property, lawn chess and lots of nooks and crannies to just get away in.
Actively level here is moderate- it's spread out enough so that people do not feel right on top of each other! This village was the newest until the Italian village came along- it also had to be rennovated after the last hurricane hit the area last year!
I loved the quiet and understated elegance of this village! The buildings are set in a U shape around a lagoon sized pool are a( with swim up bar of course!). It used to be the hot spot and very busy- now it's the quietest area and really lovely! The grounds are well manicured here and again the flowers are everywhere!
The rooms here are all fairly identical. it's location that makes the difference and I love the fact that Beaches has built these rooms to be able to expand into one, two or 3 bedroom suites suites- -on one side you have a standard room ( very large, huge flat screen television, marble bathroom- seperate vanity and bathroom area)- if you want a suite it can then open into a living area with a couch, loveseat -that opens to a trundle, dining table and if I remember correctly there is a small wet bar area with a sink. Each area is so large that a family can easily have plenty of personal space to spread out in!Also plenty of room to bring in a crib! The suites are only available on the first & third floor.
I stayed in a ground floor walkout that had a patio witha small table and two chairs- it was semi secluded as there are gardens all around it.I enjoyed having my coffee there in the morning-great way to wake up! The 2nd & third floor rooms however had a french balconet- that is, the doors opened to a wrought iron railing that was flush against the building but not a balcony.
There are plenty of places to eat in this area also- you'll have to try the Cafe de Paris! Mmmmmmm yummy! There were all manners of pastries, crepes and cookies plus they had iced mocha cappacino's ! You will also find Le Petit Chateau here- I heard the food was phenomenal and it is also adult only!
This little oasis would be perfect for honeymooners ( and I rarely recoomend a family property to honeymooners but this was so quiet and quaint!I'll blog about the weddings, Italien village and the waterpark and beaches next week!
